The Oberlin Improvisation and NewMusic Collective
The Oberlin Improvisation and Newmusic Collective (OINC) is an ensemble devoted to experimental, improvised music using invented and traditional instruments, found sound, and electronics. In a workshop setting, we cooperatively rehearse and develop a creative improvisational practice through listening exercises, guided prompts, analyzing representative improvisation performances, small group work, and gathering feedback from rehearsal recordings, peers, and guest artists. We build a collective vocabulary for ensemble listening and interaction. OINC performs at least once during the second half of the semester. Notable performances include appearances at The Syndicate (Cleveland), Studio B at WOBC, and The Birenbaum.
OINC is based in the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and was formed in 2008 by Per Bloland. Previous directors include Lyn Goeringer and Joo Won Park. The current director is Aurie Hsu.
